It's HOT

34

You may already be aware of the massive heat wave simmering over parts of the U.S. Here in North Texas it's been over 100 every day since the middle of June. This week is the worst so far.

On our front porch yesterday it was 107 at 10:30 a.m. That night the downtown bank sign said 91 at 11:00 p.m. Even the sunset doesn't give much relief!

Last night the local bank sign read 101 at 10:15 p.m.

I have a friend who baked cookies on the dash of her truck. You read that right. And they actually cooked! She was invited to dinner at a friend's and took the cookies for dessert. Some people suggested doing the same with popcorn!

We went to visit my parents and swim in their community pool. We swam at 9:00 p.m. The water was bathtub-warm. It was about as refreshing as a warm Dr. Pepper.

My husband is a mailman. U.S. Postal Service trucks have no a/c. His mailman friend measured the temperature in the mail truck yesterday, and got a reading of 120.2!

As we cleaned out our garage this week, I stumbled upon my fall decorations. You know, pumpkins, orange leaves, and all sorts of things that remind me of cooler weather. I'm very tempted to go ahead and burn a pumpkin-pie scented candle and turn the air down a little cooler to simulate October.
